Pit to Port Project News July 2008

As all of the bits and pieces come together events gather pace. The motion has been reassembled (or erected in locomotive engineering terms ) and some very glossy paint of the appropriate shades applied.

Meanwhile, outside in the yard, the boiler has been completed and is under steam test.

Pressure has been raised and so have the safety valves – for the first time in forty years.

Following the successful test the boiler was placed in the frames using the Society’s steam crane. Insulation and cladding sheets have been applied and final assembly is well under way. In order that Judy can work a passenger-carrying train, vacuum brake gear is being applied.

As can be seen, the point at which the regulator will be opened for the first time is rapidly approaching so – watch this space!
